Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
Harbor Hospice is looking to hire a Certified Nurse Aide for a Part Time (up to Full Time) scheduled position. The CNA may go into area Facilities in the Ludington/Shelby/Hart area and/or patient's homes to care for them in Hospice care. Shifts are typically 8am - 4:00pm with rotation of every 4 weeks Saturday or Sunday. NO HOLIDAYS!!
QUALIFICATIONS
- A nurse aide training and competency evaluation program approved by the State as meeting the requirements of § 483.151 through § 483.154 of this chapter, and is currently listed in good standing on the State nurse aide registry.
- Licensed Driver with automobile that is insured in accordance with organization requirements.
- Current state of Michigan Nurse Aide Certification with no findings of patient abuse.
SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction and ongoing supervision of the registered nurse, provides essential personal care assistance to patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)
- Maintains the confidentiality of patient and employee information at all times, both at work and off duty, and after the termination of employment. According to the agencies Notice of Privacy Practices and HIPAA regulations.
- Is knowledgeable and functional in computer applications including database, word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail system as required for the execution of the job.
- Performs personal care needs according to care plan attending to patient’s needs promptly. If unable to perform a task, reports to the primary care nurse immediately.
- Meets safety needs of patient using equipment safely and properly.
- Performs personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linen, as often as assigned.
- Assist in dressing and undressing patients as assigned.
- Plans and prepares nutritious meals, including shopping as assigned.
- Assists in feeding the patient as assigned.
- Takes and records pulse and respiration when ordered.
- Provides proper care and observation of patient’s skin to prevent breakdown of tissue.
- Reports patient’s condition and significant changes to the primary care nurse.
- Assists in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the primary care nurse or therapist.
- Offers and assists with bedpans and urinals.
- Provides assistance as assigned with light laundry needs.
- Performs range of motion and other simple procedures as an extension of therapy service as ordered.
- Provides respite for patient/family/caregiver as appropriate.
- Keeps patient’s living area clean and orderly, as assigned.
- Respects patient/family/care giver environment and the patient’s personal needs.
- Adheres to the organization’s documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct. Follows Standard Precautions.
- Assist the patient/family/caregiver and other team members in providing continuity of care including discharge planning.
- Reports on significant interpersonal issues of patient/family/caregiver to the RN or Social Worker as appropriate.
- Accompanies ambulatory patients outside home, serving as guide, companion, and aide.
- Performs variety of miscellaneous duties as requested such as running errands.
- Participate in continuing education to meet state requirements and other job related training. The CENA is responsible for completing 12 hours of in-service training within the period of January to November each year.
- Attend monthly meetings and participates in support service offered.
